HSMM Equipment: Linksys WRT54G / APRS / Telpac Project

The Linksys WRT54G is a strong candidate for part 97 operation. This is due to the availability of third party firmware that exposes far more functionality than the stock product, including a pair of serial ports.

A possible use for the WRT54G is to create a standalone APRS digipeater and Internet Gateway. When combined with the wireless bridging capability that already exists in the WRT54G, this would provide a way to deploy more, cheaper APRS digis while eliminating the radio traffic between the digi and a separate internet gateway.

In addition, the same hardware could be used for a Telpac bridge for use with local VHF/UHF Winlink installations.
